Chrysler 70hp 707hf L.U. Seal Question

I have two manuals that the PO of my boat gave me- a Seloc for my 707HF motor and a Chrysler manual for a 90hp.

Neither of these manuals really describe where or how to replace all the seals on my 70hp. I have a parts diagram of the L.U., but the kit I purchased doesn't show you where all the seals are, its just a few bags of new seals.

1-Is there a manual for my 70hp Chrysler that will show me how to replace all the seals?

2- Do I need special tools to replace these seals in a kit? LIke a puller or something? I'd have to buy one of those. I'm comfortable with a wrench, but don't want to screw anything up.

thank you fellas.

No specific tools are necessary. A punch, screwdriver, lag bolt, and hammer are about all that is needed to remove the old seals.

You can get a specific manual over at the Chrysler Crew. Check with Dave "Hurrikain" Kain at Hurrikain products. He has lots of different literature.

Any specific questions, re-post. I will guide you through it.

Hey Mr.Wiggles, wondering if could maybe send me that diagram over e-mail for the 707hf lower unit. Been triying to find that specific one at local libraries without any luck! I took my lower apart to replace the rack and pinion and now I'm stumped on where the washers, nuts and spring goes! So I would greatly apprecitate in. srauen8617@wowway.com thanks!

Re: Chrysler 70hp 707hf L.U. Seal Question

I have the exact same L.U. as you and did my seals the weekend before Easter. So it has not been that long ago. I really wish I would have taken pictures of it like I have with my motor, but oh well. It was fairly simple process. The one thing that is hard to do without a puller of some sort was the crank shaft oil seal right below the water pump. I took my time with most all of it, but didnt think that one all the way through and decided the best way to remove it would be to cut it out.

When I did that it did come out, but I wound up dropping a bunch of metal shavings into the tapered bearing that sits directly beneath it. At that point it required me to take it completely apart, but I found out that it was needed anyways.

So, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I can still see that thing like it was yesterday. It was not near as complicated as I thought it would be. Just take your time and think about what you are pushing, prying, cutting on. Other than that, just match up seal for seal and you will be good to go.

One thing I might add. The seal kit does not have the seals for the water pump housing. I thought that the one seal I had was for it, but it was not. I almost tried removing it first, seeing how it was one of the first things to take off. I am glad I did not. Take the L.U. apart first, completely, and then match up seal for seal. You will see that it is pretty self explanatory.

Re: Chrysler 70hp 707hf L.U. Seal Question

I might add that taking the seals out doesn't require a lot, but when you go to put the new ones in you will need something to "drive" them into place. I used a large punch the size of the seal, for the shift seal to set it. And a piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe cut square to drive the crank shaft and drive shaft seals in place. Again, just holler if you have any questions. I wish I would have when I did it.
