MOTOR IDLES FINE IN NEUTRAL. WHEN PLACED IN GEAR AND THROTTLED UP MOTOR HITS HARD AND THEN STALLS AND QUITS. CABLES WERE JUST REPLACED BEFORE I BOUGHT THE BOAT.
It should be one or two adjustments.
1 One carb is carrying the other carb. They are not adjusted egually at about 900 rpm.
2 When #1 is done and engine still stalls when gear engaged, raise idle speed via screw on the tower shaft, lower left side of motor. Add 100 rpm.

------------------
i believe you are right about carbs, but is it possible the cables need a major adjustment also. i just bought this boat for a very good price. i knew that it would need some work. this boat is not equipped with tach. i will be installing the tach very soon. i just ordered a book that tells me all about the motor and troubleshooting it. this is my first boat and gees has it been interesting. does each carb have to be adjusted seperatly or does one idle screw do it all? i hate to sound like a dummy but i am learning. thanks for all the help
Each carb has an IDLE MIXTURE SCREW, to be adjusted at a low rpm. You can use your ear. But the IDLE SPEED SCREW must be inactive.
Now that slow rpm where both carbs are working equally may not be powerfull enough to turn the prop at idle. The idle speed screw will open both carbs simutaineously to keep the engine runnig when in gear. Just did the last step myself an hour ago.

------------------
