I have a Chrysler 8HP mid '70s - that I am using mainly for trolling, so this guy runs most of the time idle speed, and each time I park the boat in the garage after I come back from fishing that little beast will leak an oily grey/brown stuff and it smells engine combustion, from the small ports in the lower unit and this for days after it sits there. It runs not too bad - keep idle - take his gas good - start not too bad - any idea why it is doing this ? I ran with 50:1 ratio and with a bit hotter plugs.

Thanks

Smoky

It's normal for unburned fuel to leak down the leg of small outboards...expecially those that run without thermostats...just a Thought

If your engine was built before 1972, I don't think there's much you can do about it. Those engines puddle valve drain system went directly into exhaust leg.

It's just a byproduct of those old 2 stroke motors. You can always buy a 4 stroke motor and give that one to me...just a Thought
