I know I asked this before, but it got wiped out with the server glitch. The boat was running fine,WOT, then it died. It would not crank and found that I had no spark. Any ideas?? This is my first boat, so I am sorry about lack of detail. The outboard is a 75 Chrysler on a 105 Conqueror. The title says that the engine and the boat are from 1973. I want redo the interior to if anyone has any info on replacement parts for this boat.

Sorry to see you have no help yet.
I turn electrical diagnostics over to a mechanic.
I'd love to help, but it could be a lot of things, coil(s), control box, stator, ground?
If you can't find anything loose, worn, or broken, I'd take it to a shop where they know what they are looking for. Good Luck.

Re: Chrysler Conqueror 105 w/75 hp no spark?

I know it has a MagnaPower CDI box, but I am not sure how to check if fire is coming out of the CDI. The component that looks like a coil is not allowing me to pull the wire out of the top of it. I would think that an OB coil is like a car coil, so I should be able to pull the coil wire off the top of it and check for fire, right? I have a fluke voltmeter and an inline spark checking tool.

By the way CD-i stands for capacitor discharge-ignition.

Ok the magna power cd box is model # 63b2003. With the key turned to the on position I get the following on the distribution block (wire cluster on opposite side of engine than the cd box, coil, and distributor: Blue wire (ignition) = 12.0v, Red wire (battery) 12v, Orange wire (heat)=12v, white wire (altenator)= 0.6v, rest of wires had no voltage. On the side of the engine with the cd box, coil, and distributor: white wire with black line coming from cd to distributor= 0.0v, Greyish wire coming from cd going to + point on coil= 0.0v, Orange wire that says heat on it is just loose and not connected to anything but is by the cd box uncovered = 12v. Is the heat wire important? With no fire coming out of the CD box that pretty much means the box is bad right? The white with the black stripe from the cd to the distributor was not completly 0; it fluctuated around 0.5 volts.

Ok, if nobody has any info on the part failure, how about a new question. What do I need to do to get this thing switched over to a normal ignition? Does this thing have points?

G'day woodshed, hopefully you have solved your problems by now? I don't know if your ignition setup is the same as my ex motor, but it had a set of low voltage points in the distributor which (I was told) sent a pulse to the CDI unit to initiate the spark. These points needed cleaning (file with points file/fine emery, then spray with contact cleaner & polish with cloth until it comes clean)so often I ended up doing it about every third trip just to avoid any hassles. I had a motor for spares which had a car ignition fitted, and the guy (mechanic) told me it had been a common fix for chrysler ignition probs. Don't have the motor anymore, so I don't know how it was set up. I could find out if your still interested. Best of luck!

By the way, the heat wire should be connected to the heat sensor, usually situated on the back of the motor screwed into the head cover. This is for motor temperature alarm or indication, so it's not a bad idea to have it!
