Hi Guys....replacing the lower unit on my 83 Chrysler 75 hp with a compatible Force L/U. Couple of questions....First, I can't get the shaft to slide home....in neutral on upper and lower....any suggestions?
Secondly, a couple parts came with the replacement unit that I don't recognize. There is a rubber tube-like piece that is about 1 1/8" long and 3/4" OD. There is a steel or metal ring that obviously goes with it. I don't recall seeing this and wonder if if goes on the water tube or where???... Any help is greatly appreciated.

your right about those parts--I also put a "light" amount of grease on that splined part of the shaft--

-- it took me and a buddy about 15 minutes to get those shafts to line up--

A second set of hands would really help putting it back in. I wrestled with mine for about 15 minutes by myself. I drafted my neighbor to help. The both of us had it back in, in about 15 seconds.

Thanks for the input. I was able to get it (alone!) by slowly turning the prop shaft while exerting a bit of upward pressure and it slipped right in. Thanks for you guys help!
