Re: chrysler magnapower 85hp oil leaks/hard to start

First off the engine is to run @ 50:1

Second engine should be around the 1971 era.

Third Spark plugs should be surface gap...BUHW "NGK" or L76V "Champion"

Fourth...No condensor...Unless someone has removed the powerpack.

Fifth...Points FA305 Cannot remember the last 3 digets.

Sixth...Set the carbs to 3/4 turn to a full turn. Should take care of the the warm start issue.

Seventh...Check for the choke plates to be closing all the way...if at all. Should take care of cold start problem.

Eighth Compare the sludge to the gear oil. Make sure its engine oil.

If its engine oil...replace the Ign coil. You will have engine wear and require a hotter spark.

Hope this helps you out.

TMD

Re: chrysler magnapower 85hp oil leaks/hard to start

Thanks for the answers to all my questions. I have some more questions that I need answers to such as how do I set the carb 3/4 turn to a full turn for the warm start? .... The choke plates to be closed all the way for a cold start.....What am I to look for and how do I fix the problem if it's open? If the choke is shut all the way whats the next step?
......
I replaced the 75to1 with 50to1 gas and oil mixture and there is no more black sludge coming from the exhaust. I just get one or two black drops of oil. There is still the watery/oily not so sludgy stuff coming from the pee hole. I noticed as well today that there was oil coming from the bottom half where the propeller and the exhaust connect. There are three bolts on each side holding this piece in place. It is leaking around that area (not much). What is the problem? Is it a gasket that needs replacing? The oil coming from the pee hole......Is that normal?
I bought a coil for a 1984 Dodge Plymouth.....Would this work in my engine? I also bought 3 L86C Champion spark plugs. They are still in the package and I wanted to know if these are a good choice for a hotter plug. Is there a gas additive that you can recommend that would purge the engine to remove carbon build-up and improve the engine's performance/starting? THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP AND ADVICE. ;)

On the front of the carbs..you should see a flathead screw...this is the low speed jet.

You should have your gearcase sealed. (New Seals)

Hotter plugs might cause detonation and destroy the tops of your pistons.

Does your engine have a PowerPack...large black or white box?

TMD

Re: chrysler magnapower 85hp oil leaks/hard to start

hellow again I returned the L86c champ plugs and got the l76v champ. the engin sounds as if its runing on one sylender. So i put the old plugs back in #l82c with a 35 gap. these plugs always have oil on them never dry. ....... The power pack is it the big white box that the head is bolted on to? or the voltage regulator it has 1 ground 1 positive and 2 a/c that goes to the starter?........ the condencer that is on the engine has one black wire that goes to the negitive of the coil and another pinstripe black and white that goes to the distributor........lets talk about the choke. I removed the metal plate that covers the 3 carbs and i think i found the low speed jet screw. Now how do i adjust them?........ Inside the carbs there are two flaps the intake and the throttle flap at the back . The intake are always open . Their is a round unit
about 2inches long that is bolted on to the engine with a rod in the centur of it this rod goes to the intake flaps to controle them shut .this unit has a wire which is green that goes to a panel that says choke which then goes to the key ignition. the choke has no power . THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP.
