Hi guys, have had my motor in an esky flushing it and running it off and on for 2 weeks, after showing some people my boat, I went to lift the motor and the tilt motor started slowly then stopped, I checked it out and had to pull it off the reservoir to look into brushes, I found that moisture had gotten in the top and had rusted around a brush which stopped it from being sprung onto the shaft, also causing it to overheat,. I cleaned out the rust and freed up the brush, my problem now is the brown wire has broken off the brush assembly and was originally pressed on not soldered. I tried soldering it but the solder won't hold to the tab nor the cable. Is there way used that this can be re-crimped onto the brush assembly, or am I up for a new motor.
I have had one repaired before by a motor rewind place, but just wanted to see if anyone had fixed this problem before and how they fixed it.

Re: Chrysler tilt trim motor

I used a bread board.......;-)

But seriously, having taken mine apart, I would not try and re-solder or re-attach the offending part. If a re-wind place is cheaper, go that way. Maybe the Frank's or Jerry's ( Or Rritts) etc may have a better solution, but if you are stuck on the water, this one is a doosey to fix on the go.;-)

I know the motor rewind will fix it as I have given him a worse one before, the last one I gave him had the board holding the brushes in 3 pieces, he put it all back together and it worked fine, charged me $100 cause of the time it took as it had 2 wires broken as well. But if there is an easy way I would love to know. I can tell you they don't solder, I am a sparky by trade and it just won't take to the metals

Ok so people know how you attached a broken wire on your tilt trim brush assembly, they braze it on with silver solder. As explained by my mate the motor re-winder.

:grumpy: Aaaaaargh the motor re-winder rings me up, he has spent 2.5 hrs on it and doesn't want to spend any more time as he had it soldered together and it run but it run slow and he thinks it's because of the gasket between the brush housing and the armature. I said I would make a new gasket, but now I am wondering if it just ain't worth finding another.
