Chugging/missing when cold @ low RPMs

Recently from out of nowhere, my 3.0LX has become a stubborn beast at low RPMs when cold. She'll fire right up, but anything below 2k and she wants to miss a cylinder and stall out. Getting out of the dock idle zone at idle has become a pain.. I have to give it more gas to keep it running, and she sets solidly on missing cylinder mode and black exhaust until we can get to full speed zone and everything is fine. Once she's warmed up, she purrs like a kitten with zero problems for the day.

Fresh plugs, good gas, clean carb, warm weather (65 degree temps). What gives?

That's exactly what I was starting to suspect. I have the service manual here and am looking at the choke inspection. Any insight as to specific things to look for?

Ayuh,... If it's Electric, look there...
If it's a choke stove, look at It's linkages...

Just went outside and checked over everything, and it all looks to be good. Wires all connected where they should be.. linkage is fine.. choke snaps closes like it should upon cold crank. Stumped..

Start the engine on muffs and watch the choke plate. It should slowly open as the engine warms up.

When was the last full tuneup?

Problem solved!

Upon closer inspection, the ground wire to the electric choke was corroded right at the crimp and barely hanging on. Replaced ring terminal, secured, all is well..

Hey.. thanks to you and Don for your (how many years??) of help on this forum! Invaluable.

FWIW, I always try and post the follow-up to problems until they are fully resolved as to leave a point of searchable reference for someone in the future.

Thanks again!
