As they should be! There is no reward in behaving stupidly. Doesn’t take a huge amount of courage to stand up and say “this ain’t right, we can’t do it this way.” It would be a huge political mess if Italy now asks for those agents’ extradition, and it would seriously hurt the efforts to combat Islamic terrorism if the US doesn't hand them over.

The CIA agents involved are criminals that broke the laws of various countries. The US Justice Dept should quietly extradite those agents involved, and let things run their course in the perspective countries. The US is not making any friends over this. Here’s the story:

CIA Agents Indicted Over Kidnap, Torture

An Italian judge has ordered 26 American citizens, most of them CIA agents, to stand trial over the kidnap of an Egyptian cleric in Milan in 2003.

Osama Mustafa Hassan says he was seized by the CIA and flown to Egypt, where he was tortured.

Five Italians were also indicted, including Italy's ex-military intelligence chief, Nicolo Pollari, who was removed from his job following a parliamentary inquiry into the claims.

The case would be the first criminal trial over the secret US practice known as “extraordinary rendition,“ where terror suspects are flown to another country for interrogation.

Most of the US suspects have returned home and the Italian government has yet to decide whether it wishes to request their extradition.

The US has never admitted any role in the affair.

I missed it. Which part of obeying the law is anti-American to you? Oh, that’s right…cops are above the law…NOT!

Basically the Euro countries are cleaning up those agencies and personnel that are running amuck. The US should do the same. By not living within the boundaries of the law the CIA ends up VALIDATING the Islamic terrorist’s activities. That's what this is all about, but that it would be lost on certain mindsets doesn't surprise me.

Here's a news flash I think maybe you can understand: cops are cops because they ain't rocket scientists. The rest of us just have to live with that. ;)

I realise all of that. I do not agree that cops are evil and criminals are good, but I see how that could serve to push your cut n pasted point home. It disgusts me, but to each his own...But you missed the entire point.
There is plenty of GOOD news you can post, yet you never do. Or perhaps it's your vision of what "GooD" is -- which is my sarcasticly-delivered point
I take issue with the constant barage of "alqeuda good/coalition bad" propaganda that has quite effectively snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!
From Bush's landing on the aircraft carrier to present day "nonbinding resolutions" in our very own gubment halls, the propaganda onslaught has been relentless and totally sucessfull !
I have no doubt that you derive some sort of enjoyment from your efforts, otherwise you would not propagate it like you do.. But being an American, I never will appreciate it.

I guess I missed the ol' presumed innocent until proven guilty tradition. I guess we should give more rights to illegal aliens than to members of our intellegence agencies.

12footer, you make it sound like we are losing because msm says so. Frankly, I doubt that the Iraqis have any time to give a flying flock of what is being said on American news shows. They're too busy dodging real bullets to worry about rhetorical ones.

The Geneva Conventions apply to the US as well. Anybody guilty of violating them deserves prosecution. Frankly I don't care how far up the chain it goes. Nobody is above the law. IMHO anybody that ignores a treaty that we agreed to shames US.

Re: CIA Agents Indicted Over Kidnap, Torture

Willy, the day after day flood of nothing but bad news from the media is appallingly biased, it's like al Jazeera has taken over all but Fox.

Let me give you an example... From CNN.

34 bodies found dead in Baghdad over last 3 days
BAGHDAD (CNN) -- Police in Iraq on Friday said they had found nearly three dozen slain bodies in Baghdad over the previous three days.

They found 14 bodies across the capital on Friday, 15 on Thursday and five on Wednesday.

The dumping of bodies in the capital has been commonplace over the last year during the escalation of sectarian violence in Iraq.

These numbers are slightly lower than other daily tolls. A U.S. military commander said Friday that a decrease of violence has been seen in the capital with the advent of the new security plan. --From CNN's Mohammed Tawfeeq (Posted 3:14 p.m. )

Notice the number? Look at the time scale. Look at the last paragraph.

Two weeks ago they would have gleefully reported 70 to 100 bodies found in just one day!!! Do they report that the new security push seems to be working? He// no! They spin the story so you see the progress as only minor and most likely temporary.

al Jazeera happily at work in your country, and you, like most, buy it lock, stock, and barrel.

Yah WbW is jus' tossin' somethin' at the Cornservatives ta get your attention. He is very smart n' does use Fox news too, BTW. The MSM, Dems, Libs, n' the French, n' other Euro Libs all say the same things, (n' fact OBL's henchmen sound like T***** Durbin or ol' John PUKE Kerry if ya listin'), all workin' for the defeat that they think will help their respective positions in WAR or Politics. Let's look at this bit deeper. The CIA operatives are alleged to have kidnaped Wanted terrorists from other countries that were, perhaps, sheltering them..... shipped them off to another country (their country of citizenship?) to be interrogated... Hmmmm, and the Italian courts want to prosecute them,

Why? Because maybe the Italians were made to look stupid? Hey, they are right there beside the French in national pride.

I think what happened was US laws were broken, international laws were broken, and the laws of individual countries were broken. I’m guessing no one would have said anything if only the bad guys were targeted. What happened is some innocent people got scooped up, too, and they don’t feel inclined to keep quiet about having been kidnapped, taken to a foreign country, and tortured for weeks on end before being released. In one case, the non-terrorist feels he is entitled to some kind of compensation. How do you compensate the innocent people without admitting you were acting illegally? Or do we not compensate the innocent people and effectively give a green light to continue illegal activities even if innocent people are injured? It appears that is the way we are headed.

One of the innocent guys that were picked up had a whole folder on him that the CIA had developed over time. After being tortured it was discovered the CIA made a mistake, a big mistake, the guy really was innocent. But instead of admitting their error, the CIA passed word to the State Dept so the guy is barred from the US…for literally no reason at all! Well, there is a reason. The guy is pursuing a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the CIA and the CIA operatives involved in his kidnapping and torture. This could get really, really messy if the lawsuit is allowed to go forth, so better to keep the guy out of the country. The CIA is going to be forced to admit in detail what their activities and objectives were. And I’m guessing it isn’t something that is going to sit well with the general public IF that information gets out.

I think the Italian court system is being used as a way to reach into the US for access to justice thru a venue that is not available in the US. Not that such venues don’t exist here (I don’t believe they do anymore) but because the not-a-terrorist guy is barred from entering the US.

I think that is what it is about…the pursuit of justice. Ironic that it can’t be had in America. Humm…

As a reminder, no other non-English speaking European country stood shoulder to shoulder closer to the United States during WWII than Italy. None! Today, I don’t think any European country supports the US as closely as Italy. Italy has her internal political distractions but at the end of the day she has always stood by the US.

And you know thet were innocent because? I see no facts here, just more lip from the left to hurt America. Can you back it up with FACTS 18 ?
