Has anyone hooked up a 12V cigeratte lighter to any boat?? I want to hook a charger for my GPS, cell phone charger, and a maybe 12V cooler.

I have a 95 sea ray, 18' length....

It's not hard to do. Get a marine grade socket - Regular cheap ones will not hold up in a wet environment. All the wiring is a negative barrel and a positive center post. Mount it in your dash(?) and you're real close to the fuse panel. Should be an accessory fuse available.

I have had them in all my boats, Thunder. Partly because I smoke, but mostly to power portable GPS, searchlights and other portable 12v devices.

What gstanton said.. .get a marine grade unit.

you have to wire it according to the load. lighter require more juice, than other instruments.

I ran mine straight from the battery to the socket, with a fuse inline of course.

A spotlight is brighter using the one straight from the battery versus the one on the front of the boat that is wired to the switch panel. I guess mabe some voltage drop through the panel causes that or something, not sure, but it works fine. Just make sure that you have the right size fuse if you connect it direct to the battery.

I've put 'em in all my boats, and I don't smoke!
I use a nifty unit that has a built-in light at the end of the lighter itself. It's good for reading charts at night. I think it's made by AFI.

I have the same exact lighter as arks posted installed at my driver's console. I do smoke but also wanted an accessory plug in for a cooler or whatever. The lighter cost me around $16 tax and all. I do have a car lighter installed on my bow and it didn't last long at all, I will replace it one day with the stainless steel one like pictured.

I know mine is hooked to the fuse block but I can't remember the fuse size, I believe it is a 10 amp fuse (now that is for 2 lighters on the same fuse). I might be installing one on the stern seat as well sense I already have power ran to that area.
