Hello, I am new to the forum and have come to ask some opinions about a Bayliner that I am about to survey.

It's a 1988 2655 Cierra, with an OMC 260 hp engine. A different broker warned me against the OMC engine. My search through message boards have found that it has no more problems than other engines of the same era. It was rebuilt last year (2006) and has 30 hours on it.

Any input? Thanks.:)

I think someone telling you that the OMC engine is no good is full of _____.
They are all General Motors marinized engines. However the OMC drive units are a different story. As long as you don't have the King Cobra - which you probably don't - then all should be good. Parts for the King are getting harder and harder to find and the replacement value is astronomical. Your 350 c.i. G.M. engine is just fine. Stay on top of things such as oil changes, clean fuel filters and general maintenance and she'll give you many hours of enjoyment. As far as having one that has been rebuilt - well, depends on how well you know the guy who did it. Some pretty shady character's out there.
