I have a 40A. Cir. Brkr. installed on top of my battery in series w/the Positive battery post to protect my trolling motor and wiring. Sometimes this thing will corrode quite badly after charging my battery. I am wondering if this is vapor from my battery caps causing this, and how can I correct it? Any ideas. It is a pain to clean. I have bought a spare breaker that I keep in my tool box if it fails.

Excessive corrosion on the positive post can be a symptom of overcharging. Might want to check the water in your battery, maybe get a hydrometer. Check it next time during charging to see if it's boiling.

Re: Circuit Breaker Corrosion,Trolling Motor Battery

Thank you for the reply. I have an old charger, a 6am/1am. trickle charge. The charger has a meter, it starts off at around 4amp. I try to leave it on until it pulls down to 1amp. sometimes overnight. Maybe I shouldn't do this, rather test the cells and shut off. I do have a hydrometer, just to lazy to use it. Actually I have two.
