I have a motor guide 71lb thrust 24 volt trolling motor. It stopped working last week and I discovered their was a circuit breaker of some type on the + side of the battery in series with the wire going to the trolling motor. It was verey rusted and I could not get any information from it.

Anyone know what size circuit breaker I should have gotten as a replacement? I purchased a Type I rated at 40 amps. Is that large enough?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

A 70 lb Minnkota calls for a 50 amp so I imagine that 71 lb would need the same.

I would prefer the smaller-40 amp. You should never exceed that kind of amperage unless:

1. You completely stop the propeller on an obstacle.

2. You have issues with your wiring.

The breaker is there to stop more serious issues, such as fire.

Thanks for the input. I purchased a 40 so I'll give that try.
