What is the best way to get old gas out off an internal tank? I have tried to stick siphon into tank but hose gets kinked prior to getting to bottom. More twists and turns on that hose then I care to think about. I know that this is probably a stupid question, but you guys are used to this from me by now. Any recommendation for flushing, cleaning?

Hello.
Time to get out your boat manual.Check it for draining of fuel out of tank.Chances are that it will show you which part of the inside cover you have to take off to get to the fuel drain outlet on the bottom of the tank.If you do not have that then ask yourself if you really need to do this.Maybe you can leave the cap open for a few days and allow the fuel to evaporate.Or dump some drygas in the tank and always add the required amount of "stabil" in your tank every time you fuel up.
Good luck.

Brought this sucker used, no manual available. I suspect I have bad gas and at least want to pump this sucker out before performing more expensive repairs. Boat is a Sunbird tank is under carpet.

Hi,
what i did was go to my local sporting good store and bought a syphon hose.it has a suction part on 1 end and u stick the hose in the tank and move it up and down and it sucks the gas out automaticlly. this hose will not kink up on u its made to pull all the bad gas out.

Sounds like your trying to feed the syphon hose down the filler hose?

There should be some way to get to the top of the tank. Maybe a deck plate or inspection plate in the deck. The plate should be round and about 6" in diameter. By removing the deck plate you should be able to see the opening for gas gauge sending unit on your tank. There would be about five screws holding the sending unit to the tank. Open it and you should have straight access to the inside of the tank.

Careful when removing the sending unit. It has a long arm (12 - 16")attached with a float on the end. All of this is inside the tank.

Do what the pros do--go down to your local auto parts store and buy a generic electric fuel pump and a few feet of auto gas hose.
- Disconnect the fuel pump intake on your boat and connect the boat's gas line (from the tank) to your new pump.
- Connect your auto gas hose to the electric fuel pump outlet.
- Make electrical contact with the battery and let it pump.
- Enjoy a chilled malted beverage of choice.

Return when all the gas is pumped out. The fuel line for the boat is already at the optimum spot in the tank for sucking out gas. All that remains is getting rid of that old gas.

Good luck with that one.
