1996 Glastron. 4.3GS Volvo Penta with SX cobra drive (early 1996 engine with carburator and 12-bolt intake manifold).
I'm removing engine and have the Clymer Volvo Penta 1994-2000 shop manual. The out drive is pulled off.
In the manual, the last step before lifting engine out, says "Remove mounting bolts (see figure 11) from the clamp ring at the rear".
Figure 11 is a photo of a long bolt being removed from near where the drive shaft goes through the transom. I do not see these bolts. I don't think my drive is same as shown in figure 11.
Is there an error in the manual??
Is there some version of the drive connection that does not have the "clamp ring" or has a different type?
What is a clamp ring anyway?

the clamp ring, is what holds the engine to the transom sheild. it is litterally a large metal ring that goes around the intermediate unit and the bolts go through it, into the intermediate unit, sandwitching, with the help of 2 large rubber rings, the engine to the transom. you can see them in this picture i took(VP 280 drives)

Sounds like a Clymer screw up to me.

Thanks for the photo. The SX drive I have does not have anything resembling the rings in your photo. I'm leaning towards this being an error in the manual. Would like to hear from someone that has pulled an engine off of an Volvo SX-Cobra drive.

You should have 2 front adjustable mounts and 2 verticle bolts at the rear of the bellhousing that mount it to the transom housing. With the drive off these 4 mounting points should allow you to remove the engine.

Sorry the rear mounts could be nuts on studs, been awhile since I pulled an SX and not sure now.
