Clanton,
I went by a machine shop this morning about my pump on my Force Trim. What they said they could do was drill out the holes on the pump, where the lines connect in, all the way through the assembly removing the nipples that are in it. Then he said they would put on brass fittings that the lines would then screw into, that would have the nipples inside of them. Does this sound like it would work?

Have you had a chance to find out anything about the pumps you were going to look at?

Thanks for everything,
Bryan Cox

Well I dont know about inside and out. I struck out on the used pumps. I think the easy and best way is the heli coil. I will check with NAPA to day for proper size, and take the valve body to a hyd shop, and look for oversize fittings. What the machine shop said should work, but you cant drill past the orignal depth of hole, the check valve, is just behind the hole, and if the drill bit breaks into that passage, pressure will bypass the check valve. I should have some info in 4 hours.

Re: Clanton Need help with Force Trim Motor/Pump

Ok,
Its all good lucky. I wish I was on my way to Panama City, lol. I'm stuck here in Raleigh working on another boat, and working at my job today. Wish I was off on the beach. I really Apreciate everything.

I have pulled the Check valves out last night of the pump to beable to take it to the machine shop, they said they needed to be taken out. One of them the little end piece, looks like a plunger that the holes the valve seat, came apart when I pulled it out. The plunger part was stuck in the pump itself. It came out easy with the tab of a screw driver from the other side to push it through. I had hammered these things very tightly together with a 2x4 piece of wood sitting on top of them, with a towel directly on top of the vavles themselves. I have no idea why it would come apart.

Let me know what you find. I have called every place that I can find, the only other place is there is a place in Hawaii that I found online, that says they can rebuild them or that they have them. I called them, but have not heard back yet.

I did find a replacement, from some company in TN that was like $600. If I'm going to have to go that way, then what I would do is replace the entire unit with an aftermarket CMC unit if that would work. I was told that I could do that for about $550.

Thanks for all your help.

Bryan Cox

Bryan,

I also have a 1988 Bayliner Capri 19' w/ a Force 125HP O/B. I've been following your postings recently (and benefited greatly from your input), and I'm in the process of fine tuning my 125 (new tach, prop, NGK plugs, adjusted carbs, decarbed, etc). I also just rebuilt my Tilt/Trim motor (replaced brushes, reattached broken Magnet, retested all wiring) works like new. I came across a web site that might be of some help to you, it has schematics, parts and pricing on your engine & components, hope it helps.

Tilt Trim Schematics and Pricing.
http://www.dolleroffshore.com/parts.cfm?c=btp&m=6&pn=1435&r=6894

Pump Motor Assembly:
http://www.dolleroffshore.com/parts.cfm?c=btpf&m=6&pn=1435&r=6894&psn=244601
Part #5 They have one left for $220, make sure the Lower pump unit is included.

(You may want to backup to the begining and look up and reenter your own Force Model ID for any other components).

Best Regards,
Kevin

kcsmith,

Just a quick FYI if your tach is made from faria they will replace it for a fee of about $30.00. They have a lifetime warrenty and the fee covers shipping. I sent them mine whitch came off a 1987 and they sent me a brand new one. Saved me about 100 bucks. Just a thought

Re: Clanton Need help with Force Trim Motor/Pump

Hey Kc,
Thansks for the Input. I had called Doller Ofshore about 2 weeks ago, ordered that pump online and all. Then they called me back and told me that it was NLA (No longer Available). So they gave me the NLA number for Mercury, which then had a nationwide database of everyone that had that pump at one time. They gave me about 9 companies across the US that had showed to have this part in there records for the 2001 year, but none in the 2002 year. I have called them all and they all don't have it left. So I am stuck, right now.

The valve body is the part that is giving problems. I am about to be the the point of thinking of going with an Aftermarket one from cmc or something. Does anyone have any input on these, not the jackplate, but just the Tilt/trim unit?

Thanks for everything guys,
Bryan Cox

Re: Clanton Need help with Force Trim Motor/Pump

bry, If you have removed the valve bodies why not have the machine shop retap the holes and add fittings. Sounds like some thing have done myself to my t/t unit. I had to change hose end fittings but the hose shop only charged me for the fittings about 4 bucks each. Sure sounds like you are going the long way around this problem, as most machine shops have bottom drills (flat not tapered).

Re: Clanton Need help with Force Trim Motor/Pump

Thanks everyone.

What about doing this? The unit I thought the guy had wasn't the correct one. what he did talk to me about was getting a CMC unit. This is the jackplate with the T/T built into it. He told me it would run about 600 installed. Do you think that I should do this, and try selling all my parts on ebay, so that I never have to mess with it again?

Its the CMC PT 130 that he quoted. Said it also has a year warranty.

The only reason that I am thinking about it hard, is that I seem to have a problem with the T/T every year or two, so I would then rid it for good after that. I hope.

Thanks,
Bryan Cox
