I am tring to find service bulletins for my '86
120HP Johnson. Looking for anything that might
remotly cause "rich a idle", plug fouling conditions. I have done alot of the first things you'ed check. my local dealer had no clue where to find the bulletins.
thanks

There 1 SB on the timming linkage, whhich would not allow the throttle plates to close at idle. If the plates close at idle you are probley ok. Did you check the recirculating valves, thermostats, compression? E-mail clanton@atlantic.net

Re: Clanton - service bulletins???

I don't have a copy of it, but a long time dealer might, there was a fix for the early V4 loopers on venting the bottom main bearings by drilling the crankcase and pressing in a fuel nipple, then connect a hose. The fuel and oil would build up in that lower bearing and eventually work its way up to #4 and make it blubber, foul plugs, and emit lots of smoke.

Also the thermostats and seals were changed to minimize sticking and to keep the cylinder head temp constant.

Be sure to use QL78YC plugs for normal use, gapped at .030", or QL82YC for trolling.
