Hi guys,

I'm thinking about buying a Classic 165 CS. They have a package with a 50hp Yamaha 2 stroke and a Minn Kota 55 trolling motor. I'll be using it in the Finger Lakes of NY and some trolling along the shore of Lake Ontario. Maybe taking the kids tubing. Is this enough boat for an average day on the big lake? I wouldn't take it out when it's too rough. How about the trolling power. Is the 12v strong enough, battery life? Will the 50 idle slow enough to troll?

thanks, Mike

Re: Classic 165 CS

Hi There,I have the same boat but upgraded to the 75 horse Four stroke motor, also a remote control for the trolling motor,I have no problems with the trolling motor as long as it is not wide open all the time,Iv'e had my boat out in some really rough water and boat rides great.Only problem I had was my aerator would not pump but got in touch with an Engineer from Alumacraft and just had to loosen the nut at the back of the pump and turn the the pump so the outflow was closser to upright.
Im sure you will love the boat

You will be unhappy with a 50HP engine on that boat, especially if loaded even moderately. I own a 2004 165CS and after installing a 75 would not go back to a 50. I also added Smart Tabs and find this combination exceptional.

Re: Classic 165 CS

Just ordered the same boat a week ago but I upgraded to a 60hp 4 stroke EFI merc and the Minn Kota 70 pound 24V power drive :D

Can't wait to get it in a month but won't be able to use it until spring

I am hoping the 60 is enough.....

I have the 165 cs lunker with the 50hp yamaha. I find the 50 plenty powerful( its also the max you can put on) it's bulletproof. I live on the south shore of long island and take it out on the atlantic when the conditions are right. You probaly made a decision by now but the finger lakes would be fine.
