I have a classic 50 on a pontoon boat and when you first start it it runs great but when you shut it down you have to choke it and give it some gas and let it crank for awhile before it will start up again and then rev it up alot before it will stay running again. it is like it is loading up after you shut it down anyone have any ideas on what is wrong?

Re: classic 50 starting problems

This is a real brain teaser.

Engines run on fuel, air, and spark, at the right time, with a little compression thrown in for grins.

If it runs ok at first then quits when temp comes up we are looking at a temp related problem.

Most temp related problems are related to ignition and in particular to ignition coils.

With today's electronic ignition systems, however, temp can affect them too if they overheat because they get hot and the number 1 reason for that is that is that the solid state modules are not adequately heat sunk to their heat sink.

#1 cause of that is the thermal grease that is installed between the electronics and sink dries out and quits providing a thermal path; hence things get hot.

Balls in your court.

Look around and get back.
