I have a1986 Mercury classic fifty. It does not have a power tilt/trim which is hard to lift. Anybody know where I can purchase a power tilt/trim unit? Can it be added to a motor that is not equipped with one?

You can add it. The original had the pump inside the boat and two hyd rams. They are around and can be found. The same one fit lots of motors of that vintage. I found mine on Ebay, think I paid about 350 for everything. Was fairly easy to install, I found directions to do it on line somewhere. Remember Mariner's were the same but a different color. Even the one for a different hp will work. Mine was a Mariner 45 and I actually found a merc one.

Wait, what? When did a 1986 outboard become a CLASSIC???

If you watch ebay and craigslist you can often find aftermarket TnT units for about the same you'll pay for just a re-fit TnT off a similar motor, so there are other options.

I bought a much more recent TnT unit for a 1971 Merc 650... And I didn't even think it was a 'classic'..... yet...

Found directions online:
