Lots of people seem to have trouble with carbs. Ben sitting a long time, old gas, gommed up and so on. No one talks about usung Sta-Bil in your gas. Available at Wal Mart and parts houses. I live in CO and have a lake house in OK. Have 2 outboard boats and 2 jet skis. I keep Sta Bil in all 4, don't drain carbs and don't run dry. Just spray WD-40 in cylinders when I put them to bed for the winter having used Sta-Bil treated gas in them. Gas in tank stays fresh over the winter and I have no trouble starting them in the spring. All stored in doors.

Now my motors (toys) that I don't use except once in a while, I still like treated gas but I drain the carbs and spray WD-40 in these as they may be in storage for much longer.

Lots of us use and preach fuel stabilisers. You are right, though. It is the best defense against bad fuel issues. Any more than 2 years, though and you are SOL even with it.

WD40 is a pretty good degreaser. I wouldn't spray it in my cylinders for long term storage. It may be all right to hose a cylinder that had sat for years to attempt free-ing it up.

Sea Doo manual suggest use of WD 40 to do internal fogging before winter. It has some oil in it and should help keep the rings freed up. I have never seen Seafoam in the stores where I go but have used a spray de carb product from Mercury.

Sea Foam is getting more popular. I first found it NAPA stores and always have since.

I have Sta Bil too. I use it on my 4-stroke stuff. Lawnmowers, etc. Why? I don't know.

I've never had any trouble with either product but Sea Foam also acts as a decarbonizer which is very important in 2-strokes.

Exactly my thoughts. I have also used BRP's "Carbon Guard", although not so sure that it has the stabilizing properties like Seafoam. Seems to work well against carbon build up. Although, I also run XD 50 Full Synthetic.

Why would it be better? Although I've used it for decarboning, I'm kind of suspicious of some of the Seafoam claims - when you read the can, it sounds like a cure-all for everything, and I am skeptical about stuff that makes such a myriad of claims. I just don't understand why it would be better for fuel stabilizing than a product designed specifically for that and that alone. Not trying to be argumentative, just wondering why it would be better than StaBil or similar, single purpose products.

Walmart has Seafoam in the boat section now.Advance Auto and Napa too.
Napa is about 3 bucks more a can than anyone else.

Re: Clean Carbs-clean Carbs-clean Carbs!

I tried Sea foam for the first time on a 1970 33 hp johnson. smoked like a green leaf fire and had the neighbors laughing. Smoked bad.

Compression increased, smooth idle, easier starting, smother acceleration throughout.

I am not reading off the can label, just stating what it accomplished with the old 33, it had been stored for years on a house boat over in the panhandle, then brought back to life by the party I purchased it from, but it never ran correct and I cleaned the carbs and tuned it by the manual but after sea foam it is right now.

De carbed my other outboards and can not say it made a difference but sure smoked like all heck.

Thought if it can do it for the 2 strokes why not 4 strokes, stuck it in the old john deere lawn tractor, purrs like a kitten and so does the murray, heck I even put it in the tiller that only gets used a few times a year. the 1978 302 in the old work truck enjoys it also. So does the chainsaw's. The 1948 N8 and the 1956 640 Ford tractors all get a dose of it also, they sit for months at a time and start every time no problems.

I am not claiming it is a miracle cure, but it sure is an ounce of prevention, and I got results from using it.

I also use sta-bil in the fuels of the outboards and the old ford tractors and tiller, everything not used regularly gets treated with sta bil, but everything gets the sea foam.

With proper preventative maintenance and tune ups the added security of sea foam preventing carbon build up just makes sense to me.
