Re: cleaned carb, now rough neutral idle...

Did the engine run bad at idle before the carb was cleaned?

You cleaned the carb, as in you removed it, disassembled it and cleaned it? Or did you just clean it while mounted on the engine? If you took it off the engine and disassembled it, you may have an air leak or a poor idle mixture now from the removal (i.e. a gasket didn't seal properly, or idle mixture now off). If you took it off and apart, did you use new gaskets when putting it together?

If it ran bad before the carb was cleaned, you may have some other issue. May want to check compression, and also check the quality of spark from the coils.

not was not as rough as it is now. i did take carb off, apart and cleaned, put new gaskets and such on, and mounted back on. how do i set low speed needle? i dont have a high speed needle so that should be ok right? my low speed needle is marked lean -rich.

If you didn't remove the needle and clean passages there could easily be gunk still in it.

If you removed the needle and didn't adjust it after that, then that's most likely why it's running poorly.

Since it does run, just turn the knob in each direction, it should start running better one way and worse the other way. You should be able to make it run very smooth after some adjusting.

i did remove the slow speed needle and cleaned passages in the carb. its just i dont know if its supposed to be set more on the lean side or rich side after i put the needle back in. Also where would the high speed orphes be, i know where the high speed nozzle is but where is the jet and orphes?? thanks.

Re: cleaned carb, now rough neutral idle...

Please see my PM to you about this. You always want the engine running on the rich side. Running the engine lean will make the engine seem more powerful, but will quickly burn up the cylinders, because in reality they are starved for enough fuel to keep your combustion temps cool. Like most carbs, your high speed jet is probably inside the float bowl. My best recommendation to you is to get a shop manual for this engine, so you know exactly how this carb works, and how to adjust it.
