hi fellas, i took my carbs off and tore them down today and did like you said, these carbs were very very clean throughout. needle valve was fine and looked like new. i did this because when you go to accelerate it acts like it starves for gas.. and falls on its face. Tashaddy said to rebuild and i did what he said because i value his opinion. all new gaskets, cleaned them with cleaner and air, very easy rebuild really... now could it be the fuel pump and how would i know as this boat has sit along time but revs fine with no load but in drive will only idle>> thanks for all the advice, very trusted in my eyes thanks to you all>> Raven:(

Did you remove the round plugs and clean underneath them. Also, did you remove the jets and clean behind them. These are often overlooked, but are pretty darned essential. Any soaking involved? Not are carb rebuilds are created equal.

sorry you are disappointed, as said above did you do these things. removing those high speed jets was the point of the rebuild. you can place a piece of clear line between the fuel pump and the carb. and see if it keeps gas in it at high throttle.

How about this? Is the spark advancing when you advance the throttle? The timer base needs to go up against the rubber bumper. If it is sticky, the carb butterflys will open before the spark is advanced and it will just go bleah!

Hi there raven45227, I agree with you these guys are great. I have a 60hp 2 cylinder and ran across a similar problem when trying raise the RPMs up on load. It ended up that I had 30 psi compression on my bottom cylinder and 140 on my top. I read a lot on this forum and I see that the compression should be one of the first things to check. It's in the shop now being looked at. Hopefully I'll get it back soon with a low bill before the end of summer.

just checking # 40 is idle jet, #33 is high speed. you're right they are fixed jets.

I would do/redo your link and sync but before doing that check compression. Are you sure you are getting good spark to all 4?
