cleaner and wax recommendation

I bought a Cal 34 sailboat recently and it needs attention. It had moderate oxidation. Your hand comes back white. Someone had recommended Comet to clean it with first. Is that harmful to the environment if used on a boat in the water? What wax should I use? I'm not expecting miracles but I know it can help and look better.

Thanks

Search this section.... yes comet will help but it is washed off and is only part of the process.

You can use 3m rubbing compound (light cut) or even 3m hull and fiberglass restorer and wax.

If the oxidation is heavy you will need a electric polisher to do the deed.

Is comet safe to use on a boat in the water? I am worried about using it, and having the runoff go in the water.

William,
Go to www.cleaniedini.com and check out some of the info on it. I would not use Comet in the water. I know bio-kleen makes some great oxidation removers. You can also use some boat soap as well as MILD scrach pad. I think 3M makes a white one that will take the oxidaiton right off. Personally I would take the time with a high quality abrasive like Presta or Menzerna, 3M makes some great stuff but most of the marine industry is brain washed that 3M and Meguair's makes the only abrasives in the world. Presta is water based and pretty good for the envrioment.

Again www.cleaniedini.com
