cleaning compounds for fibreglass boats?

Ok i have two questions...<br /><br />First off, in side my hull in places like under the seat and on the side padding there is rust stains on the fibreglass from rusted out staples what is the best stuff to clean this with without hurting the finish?<br /><br />Secondly, On the outside of the hull i plan on doing some buffing to shine things up what is the best stuff for the job?

For the rust stains I use muriatic acid...for the buffing you'll need to get some other opinions, for the stuff I use I buy in bulk and is not something you can prolly get. Maybe an auto body supply will have what you want...just a thought

shifty'<br />There is a household product called "The Works", don't know if you can find it in Canada but it is ok for porcelain, fiberglass, plastic, etc.<br />It will instantly remove rust stains.<br />Just be careful some of the products that remove rust will discolor aluminum.

This is interesting, because I just bought my boat and the fella told me that he couldn't polish teh boat because the old coating on it just turned black. I may try some products on it, after some advice, but is that normal for old painted fiberglass. The boat is a 1969 LeeCraft 15', and it is a goldish metal flake top and white bottom. I hope I am not changing the subject here, but it seems this guy adn I have some of the same problems...thanks!!<br /><br />If I need to I will start a new post, let me know...

3M makes rubbing compound for fiberglass, check their online site, boat stores or paint stores that handle auto paints. I've used just regular auto rubbing compound and it works ok.
