Any suggestions on cleaning main engine components while the engine is broken down? Need to remove some surface rust off of the engine block,
and would like to clean the crank and pistons. All parts are out of a new engine that has been sitting in the crate.

Ayuh,.... A feed troth,+ a few gallons of Kerosine,..??
And a very Stiff bristled brush...

I have access to a big standup parts cleaning station,.. With a light, brush,+ pumped solvent....:p

Be careful cleaning the Rust,+ crap off the outside of the block,... Don't wanta get it Inside the block....
And, stick with Kero, or Diesel for solvent,... No Gasoline,....
For Safety's sake...

Water displacement formulation #40 (WD 40) works great as long as you keep the flow downward so the debri flows down away from the internal compartments like off the engine stand. A small pc, of green scothc brite helps to remove light rust that or steel wool.
