I am just winterizing the engine and drained out the lower end..its a 1983 Johnson 35hp elcts model...

I was wondering if I can flush the lower end with something and then refill with the gear lube....

If I can flush it what would I use....

I just want to have a clean inside before filling...remove any sludge or what ever ..if any...

Thanks

kerosene, diesel fuel. put it in screw back in, then turn prop several times over and hour, drain, fill with oil, being sure to use new seals on the screws.

Thanks Tasha...I ill get some diesal and do as you said...I am going today to get new plug seals also....

I just want a clean inside is all...this is my first outboard and really want to take care of it...it runs like a champ .....

I m going to refill it with valvoline Synpower GL-5 gear lube since I have a few quarts of it now and I called valvoline and they said it is fine for my use in lower end use....

Thanks
