I have 91 70HP Yamaha and having carb issues since ethanol. How hard a job is it to remove the carbs and thoroughly clean them? I have a service manual that doesnt give step-by-step instructions. I am handy with cars but never dealt with this. My local dealer wants to clean the carbs for $350. Is this something I could do myself? How exactly is it cleaned? Thank you.

I have the service manual with good expolded views but does not give step by step instructions. Is it a matter of taking it all apart and dipping it in SeaFoam? And what are the 'gotcha's I should watch out for? Thank you.

Re: Cleaning out Carb 70hp

I use CRC 0604 or tech 2000 from walmart, use safty glasses and skin protection. remove and install them as an assembly usually on that engine. remove the bowls and covers and jets, carefully clean and spray out all passsages and reassemble.
take notes, try not to disturb any linkage adjustments. most the time if it was ok at removal it will be very clse at reasssembly.
but there are no step by step instructions.
