I'm going to pull my Merc MR-1 equipped boat out of the water next week. It has been in the water since mid-April and the outdrive will be a gunky mess! I need "best practice" ideas on how to clean it.

Start simple like Simple Green or toilet bowl cleaner and a pressure washer. Be careful not to mix anything that has bleach with anything that has ammonia.

If the "gunk" is minerals, then I would recommend toil bowl cleaner such as Sno Bowl. If the Gunky stuff is oil skim...greasy type gunk....then Simple Green or Purple Power.

The growth is organic plant-like. Some algae, but the heavy concentration is almost like a moss. The boat is out of the water. When I pulled it, I cleaned the outdrive right at the ramp. I first used a narrow stiff piece of plastic with a beveled edge to scrape off the heavy concentrations of growth. After that was accomplished, I used a car washing "bug sponge" to scrub the surfaces. That combination worked well.
