I'm getting ready to the pull the carbs for a clean and rebuild this weekend, and while I have them off I would like to be able to clean the engine especially since I'll be able to get all those hard to get to places. The block is a bit dirty/grimmy from the disintegrated foam insulation in the cowling. What is a safe product that I can use to clean up the engine block? Also, does anyone use any of corrosion inhibitors/protectant sprays on their engines? If so whats safe to use on the block and/or electronics?

No easy go. Too many nooks and crannies. I used screwdrivers, tooth picks, what ever would fit the space. Wd40 on a qtip, rag, paint brush for the oily residues. Once cleaned that's it. A cover and maintenance will keep it looking good.

I plug up carbs.Spray any degreaser.Try to stay away from the wiring.
Then rinse and spray again. Then I just leave them alone. Any thing you spray on them just collects dirt and gets funky again.
Be careful not to push anything up under the flywheel and in the carbs.
I also use Dawn Dish Soap.It really works great.
Auto Zone sells a purple cleaner, so does Wally World.
It's pretty good.
