Cleaning soot off the transom

Hi all. I've done a little searching and can't find a direct answer to my question. I'm working on tuning my carb to deal with a rich running mercruiser and I'd love some help getting the soot off the back of my boat. I hit it once with standard "car wash" stuff (I think it was Turtle brand) and it takes quite a bit of scrubbing. Even after scrubbing, there's a bit of a stain left. Is there a product designed specifically to remove carbon/oil residue? It's a 19 ft fiberglass hull.

Thanks a ton

Thanks for the quick reply

I'm new to the world of fiberglass. Do you mean just standard engine degreaser or is there a "fiberglass/paint friendly" product I need to use?

seems like a degreaser would be a good start. if that don't work. try a diluted mix of muriatic acid and water (25%-33% acid)... that'll take anything off.... use it with much caution though... it's some real nasty stuff. wear safty glasses and rubber gloves. maybe even a respirator or the likes. don't get it on you, and don't breath it. apply it and wash it off with soap and water right after application...

fwiw, dawn dish soap has degreaseing properties to it... i use it instead of hand cleaner when i'm all greasy after a messy job... that'd be my first try... it'll also take some of your wax off too. but so will acid... ;)
