I was given a boat that sat in the water for a long time, then taken out & left in an area that was muddy (dirt and red clay). There were stains around the boat that even a pressure washer wouldn't take off!!!

I decided to try the Mr Clean Magic Eraser after reading another post on iboats.

Wow!! I'm almost speechless. I attached a "before" & "after" picture showing a small area of the boat I started on. And I didn't have to use too much elbow grease. I'm amazed!

That is great information to know! I now wonder how it will work on a painted surface?

I use an acid made to clean wire and aluminum wheels. All you need is a soft bristle brush and a little elbow grease. Check my thread, that hull was black when I pulled it of the water last fall.

The box states that it's not recommended for surfaces that are polished/glossy, or on brushed, satin, dark, or faux finishes.

I drive a white truck @ work and had someone rub against it with their car, i guess backing out of a parking space. I tried & tried to get it off but couldn't. This morning, I tried a piece of the magic eraser. The left-over black rubber from their bumper cam off with ease AND no signs of white paint on the sponge.

Here's a small excerpt from what I read about it:

"The dirt eraser made from BASF's melamine resin foam Basotect? resembles a normal sponge. When lightly moistened, however, it seemingly develops magical properties...

To understand the astonishing capabilities of the Magic Eraser, we have to take a closer look at the special properties of Basotect?. ?On curing, melamine resin becomes almost as hard as glass?, explains Dr. Christof M?ck, responsible at BASF for the global business management of this special foam. ?The hardness of this material is one of the secrets of its cleaning talent: like extremely fine sandpaper, the foam eraser rubs the particles of dirt from the surface.? Basotect? still manages to remain soft and supple thanks to the fine structure of the foam created by foaming the resin. Unlike rigid polystyrene-based foams such as Styropor, open-cell foams have interconnected air chambers. In the case of Basotect?, only the cell strands formed when several cavities impinge on each other remain. What looks under the electron microscope like foam on bath water is actually a finely structured three-dimensional network consisting of extremely slender and therefore flexible plastic filaments. The large, almost freely accessible surface produced by this airy structure binds the abraded particles of dirt and contributes to the eraser's astounding grime-removing capabilities.

This effect can be achieved on a wide variety of surfaces such as tiles, ceramic stovetops, ceramics, doors, leather seats and automobile wheel rims ? and all without adding detergent. A little water is all that is needed to moisten the Magic Eraser. Even the most ingrained dirt cannot resist the glass hard microstructure of melamine resin. Only surfaces liable to scratching and varnished surfaces should not be cleaned with the ?magician?."

Yup, they are magic sponges. I used them to remove adhesive from a prefinished floor we installed at a customers house. Solvents wouldn't break the glue down, and the container specifically stated as a warning that the dried glue was difficult if not impossible to remove.

Not for the Magic Eraser.

I tell everyone I meet about them. I got one as a sample years ago and finally had pulled it out to use it to clean a stubborn spot as nothing else was touching it. I was hooked.
