The VST is buried and I haven't done much work on outboards. Is this a job one person can do and is there anything particularly tricky about it. There is a video on youtube with some instructions. Are there written instructions on the net? Should I bite the bullet and take it in?

are you experiencing any issues to make you suspect vst? are you seeing any poop when draining the vst? are you seeing low pressure under load?

Motor ran like crap. The injectors were clogged and the VST hasn't been cleaned in 10 years. I was told my newly clean injectors would be at square one if I didn't clean the VST.

Thats very true, but its usually not the VST filter thats the issue. The pump is likely coughing out fillings as well that are going to replug those injectors. You may need to replace the pump and add a secondary filter...

clean the VST it is something that needs to be done on a more frequent schedule than 10 years
Some motors have filterers before VST that need service/replacement also , but have no idea if yours does
