Anyone have an opinion on what the best marine wax is? I am wanting to get my old 1995 Sea Ray 195BR looking spiffy again.

Re: Cleaning/waxing

I don't use marine wax. I use a good quality automotive wax, preferably carnuba. I think once the word marine is added to the label, the price doubles for the same product.

MH9371B
My Dad used airplain wax in the late 50,s on his alum starcraft. I have had my own boats sence 1978 and have trieg alot of wax auto and marine. I've found that Starbrite premium marine polish with teflon has worked the best so far.Just be sure to do the bottom of your boat,it can make the world of diffrence in cleaning and helps your top end also.
hope this helps, DT1

Re: Cleaning/waxing

I used Starbrite for two years on my new boat ran out one day went to get some more and they were out also. A little determined to finish, I bought some Meguiars boat wax. Basicaly one side Starbrite the other Meguiars. Noticed after using harsh solvents such as blackstreak remover, rust stain remover, saltwater, and normal washes the Meguiars held up longer. Have been using it ever sence.

Any good ideas on how to clean the dirt off the bottom?

I have used the 3M restorer & wax but it does not seem to clean it up. Suspect I need something stronger to get it clean, then wax it good.

If you have growth on the bottom, I would recommend Mary Kate's On/Off hull cleaner. Starbrite's hull cleaner isn't bad either. Both are acids, and you MUST read the directions & follow them. And, yes, of course, then you will need to wax the hull.
I too have used the 3M Restorer & wax. It will remove small dirt from say the top deck, but on the bottom of the hull, no, it can't remove that. I have also noticed that with the restorer, you need to use a second wax after that, in order to get a glossy shine. Something like 3M's Finesse It.
