CLEAR COAT vs GELCOAT

Got a questions, I hope somone can help me out. I helpped a friend repair some nicks in his boat. The top of the boat were the paint is, (I think that is called the gelcoat) dull. If you wet it, it looks like it came off the showroom floor. What he wants to try is a gallon of clear polyurethane. (and I think this would be called the clear coat). He wants to paint it over the paint (gelcoat). We went to Lowes, and they have some clear coat polyurethane that you use on wood floors to make them shine. As we read the lable it said, it could be used on fiberglass to make it shine.


Can we us polyurethane on the boat paint (gelcoat) without hurting it.

Ayuh,.... Ya do that, 'n yer Bud will have the biggest Mess of crap ya ever seen....

If the hull is still gelcoat,... Buff, 'n polish it out, then wax it...
