Clear-Coat...

The transom on my boat is painted silver. If I were to take a guess, I would say it's spray-painted. However, it's not a horrible job. There are no "holidays", paint drips, etc. I have been detailing my cars for years. I know about pads, wet-sanding, compounding, waxing, polishing, one-step wax products, different types of chrome cleaner products, etc, etc. With my vast experience in detailing, I have come to the conclusion that there is no possible way I can bring a shine to this. The only solution I have come up with is, buying a can of clear coat. Thoughts???

Re: Clear-Coat...

Can't hurt anything except you will have to rough it up with some paper before you spray it and could go through the paint, I would use some 600-800 grit and lightly sand it.

If you just spray the clear on it probably won't stick, also check a small out of the way area to be sure your clear is compatible with the paint that is on it.

If you have never painted or haven't much ti is a good idea to spray a bit on something else just to get the hang it again, clear coat part of your trash cans or something just to get the hang of it.

You don't think a good coat of wax of buffing will do it because once you go through with sand paper you are done and buffing and wax are alot less intrusive.
