165 i6 from 1976. I noticed the clear tube from the carb to the fule pump is off and has shrunk to the point it no longer reaches the carb. I am guessing this is a unburned gas/vapor return to the pump.

Where can I get this tubing? It is common to get a t Napa cut to length type. I am guessing it needs to be able to handle fuel.

It is a safety feature for if the diaphram ruptures in the pump. Instead of dumping fuel into the bilge, it is drawn into the carb and burned.

You might try a local lawnmower or small engine repair shop. They often use the clear tubing for lawn equipment.

The tube is only used if you have a mechanical fuel pump.On a marine pump there are 3 fittings, fuel in, fuel out, diaphram vent.Usually on the bottom part of the fuel pump body

I know when replaced the fuel pump on my older boat it was not set up with a fitting on the carb to accept the emergency return. I used fuel line and drilled a hole in the top of my spark arrestor creating a tight fit for the line. if the diagphram goes out the raw fuel running into the carb should flood the engine and get your attention.

If it is the mechanical pump and has no fitting for the hose then my guess is some idiot installed an automotive fuel pump.

My local Ace Hardware store sells these tubes too. Just cut the length you need, and off you go.

The tubing you are looking for is called Tygon.
