My Humminbird sonar interferes with my radio...click...click....click. I am certain it is the Humminbird as the clicking stops if I turn off the sonar. They are installed close to one another. Their wires are close for about 6 inches, and that is unavoidable. Will wrapping either the radio antenna cable with foil, or the sonar cables in foil stop the clicking? I would rather not re-route one or the other as space is very limited. Any other ideas?
UPDATE: After re-routing both the radio power supply wire and the radio antenna well away from the sonar wires and sonar unit, the clicking continued, but less intensely. The only thing I haven't done is wrap the sonar wiring in foil, but I have solved the problem sufficiently so I can turn up the squelch to eliminate the clicking. Can someone tell me what effect turning up the squelch has on radio range, reception, or transmission? My needed range is within the horizon (about 15 miles), so I don't want to reduce my range within that diameter. Any comments?
