I have a clicking / some what of a rattle noise coming from the coupler area..... I thought maybe the gimbal bearing was bad so I replaced that, but the noise is still there.... sounds like it's on the bow side of the transom, but the noise could be carrying thru from the upper unit I guess.

My other thought was maybe something around the started is catching the flywheel. Not sure what else around that area could make such a noise.

I guess I need to get in there with a stethoscope.

Could also be the exhaust flappers. The old style could loose the rubber edging on them, then while idleing the would click against the exhaust Y.

Don, would that noise only be there while idling? It's there at idle and mid-range, not so much at high end.
