My carb setting are all messed up. Does anyone have the carb settings for this engine. The fuel line comes into the motor housing, goes under the carb into a rectangular device about 1.5" tall 2.5" wide and .5" thick. This is attached to the side of the carb with a fuel line going into the carb and a second fuel line going into the engine. Will someone explain to me how this functions and what the carb setting should be. Thanks, TRod.

TRod,

The rectangular device you described is the fuel pump. Fuel flow goes from the fuel tank through the fuel pump to the carb. The hose connected to the engine (at the reed plate) is a vacuum/pressure line that operates the fuel pump.

The idle mixture setting is about 1 turn out and the high speed setting is about 2 turns out. Set the high speed under load first, and then try to adjust idle and then recheck high speed.

Clymer's outboard engine repair manual Vol 1 (1969 and newer under 30hp) has a fair section on Clintons.

Good luck

Thanks, but I am not sure of which is which.
There is a screw on the very top by the linkage, one on the upper left side and one on the bottom of the float bowl. Will you please clarify? Thanks in advance.

Also, does anyone know where I can get a carb rebuild kit? It's labeled tillotson on the fuel pump and LMB on the carb. Any info will help. One other question. I took the lower unit apart down by the gear for the prop. It was full of grease that looked extremely old(some thick and some runny). Should I use grease or gear lube? Thanks, Rod.

TRod

The top screw is the idle speed stop screw. The upper left screw is the idle mixture screw and the screw on the bottom of the bowl is the high speed mixture screw. I rechecked the repair manual, and the idle mixture is set at 1-1/2 turns open and the high speed mixture screw is 2 turns open. The lower gearcase should be lubricated with SAE 90 EP or a good quality outboard motor gear lubricant. I haven't had to buy any parts yet but have been told that some small engine repair shops mught be a good place to start.
