Just wandering if anyone would know why my digital clock resets to 12:00 everytime I start the engine. I have a 2000 four winns w/ a 4.3 volvo penta set up.

Re: Clock Resets

It might have a backup battery in the clock that is dead. So it loses power and resets when you shut off the ignition. Other than that, you've got a shorted wire somewhere I think.

No battery in the clock itself it is a all in one built into the guage cluster depth, hours, water temp., clock I was thinking bad ground but if so where is the motor ground?

Re: Clock Resets

Ground is the engine block, the ground bus on the fuse panel, ground terminal on any of the gauges, and ultimately the NEG terminal on the battery. You don't have a bad ground, and you don't have any shorts. The 12V feed to the clock is apparently fed from an incorrect source. It should be fed by a source that is not interrupted momentarily when the key is turned to the START position. Next time you start the engine, watch the other gauges as the key is turned to RUN. They and the clock should power up. Then watch as the key is turned to START. If the gauges drop while starting the engine you have found the problem. You need to reroute the clock power from a constant power source (such as the boat harness rather than the engine harness).

I would agree with Silver, you have the power connected through the ignition harness, instead of a constant 12V feed.

Re: Clock Resets

Could have a weak battery as well, when you start the engine, the volts drop below the minimum voltage required for the clock

Re: Clock Resets

Yes when trying to start the engine all of the guages reset and come back on when started I will try a constant power source and see if that fixes my problem, Thanks to all for your help this is a great site with everyone always willing to help and I really do appreciate it .Thanks again
