Well, yesterday I took the 16' boat out and before I left I took a bungee cord and tied it around the boat's steering wheel and around two gas cans so they would not tip over during trailering.
Well when I launched the boat, I moved the gas cans to the rear of the boat. The launch ramp was very busy and I was by myself.
So I get in the boat and fire up the 55hp rude and start backing up navigating through the boats. I was coming close to a nice bayliner and had to turn left.
Well the bungee cord was still tied around the steering wheel which I forgot about.
With a fear of God in me I frantically tried to untie the bungee cord and within 3-5 inches I got it untied and put it in forward without hitting the fellow.
I learned yet another lesson. Don't forget anything, ever. Anytime you forget something when you go boating it can cost you dearly.
I guess I will put the gas cans in the back of the truck next time.
Let's see if anything is going to happen today.
