I have a 2000 25 h.p. TLRY and the lift motor is on the fritz. Finding one for a reasonable price is a problem. They go for about 300 bucks. So i bought a used one off of Craigs and it was DOA. so i decided to tear into it and it looks like changing brushes is commonplace on these motors. They're 2 wire so i'm guessing the polarity gets changed at the box where the wires attach. In looking closely at the brush hookup there's a small box that is before the brush about the size of half a postage stamp and maybe eighth inch thick. The voltage doesn't get beyond the box........What is this little box. It has some point contacts on the inside mounted on some thin piece of metal. Diode, or Thermal coupling, or???? I'm thinking of by passing it.
Thanks for any help

Thermal fuse would be my guess. Look it up on the parts break down.
If it is bad that would mean something is wrong with motor, got to love the online buys

What was wrong with the one on yours?
maybe put one good motor together from the two

thanks for reply,
I did look it up on the parts breakdown and it isn't there . It mounts up into the base and is in series with the line to the brush. There's a little bit of corrosion and i'm thinking the thermal fuse (if that's what it is) is trash corroded on the inside. i'm going to try to jump it and see what happens.
