Howdy all! 1997 454 closed cooled using a San Juan Engr system.

Anyone have experience with using closed cooling riser gaskets AND block-off plates vs a single blocking gasket between the closed cooling system and the riser raw water?

Just pulled mine apart after 10 years and found that I had coolant leaking into the exhaust port on one side. It may not be the blocking gasket but when it goes back together, I have the choice of going to stainless steel plates "sandwiched" between 2 gaskets or going with the original blocking gaskets.

What say you?

Cheers,

Rick

As I have the same system, I have thought of having the ports on the manifold welded, so that the gasket is not as critical. The stanless plate is a good idea. I should check mine during the off season.

I guess a pressure check, which is easy to do with a closed cooling system, would tell you if the gaskets or anything else is leaking.
