" Clunk" as revs drop. Yammy 30

Hi all. I have recently bought a 30 DMH Yamaha 2002 model.( manual start, tiller control)
Have only run it on muffs so far, and as I drop the revs from about 1500 rpm back towards idle, there is a slight clunk/knock . Hard to tell where it is coming from . . powerhead or drive shaft. If I ease the tiller back to idle, there is no problem. It only seems to happen when I drop the revs back quickly with the tiller.
Also, as I disconnected the fuel and let it idle till dry, it also "clunked" as the revs started to become erratic and drop with the diminishing fuel supply.

I have a Seloc manual, and have just changed the waterpump kit and connected/adjusted the shift linkage. I eased the driveshaft in while turning the prop when I attached the lower unit, and it seemed to mesh in just fine.

Other problem is a siezed tilt tube.

All help gratefully appreciated !. Thanks . .

Don't want you to think we do not to help, but I have no idea what the cluck is.
I do know that outboards tend to lean sneeze when running out of fuel or just running too lean at idle, so mabe that is what you are trying to exlain.

I have never had a siezed tilt tube, just ones that wear out and get sloppy.
You may have to see how to replace, it may take cutting and driving out old.
