Looking to get access to the clutch dog in a 150hp Johnson. How easy is it to get a visual and remove? Thinking it may be broken or its pin. Thanks for your help.

Re: Clutch dog access

I believe you'll have to drop the lower unit, remove the prop, pull the bearing carrier for the propshaft. Basically, totally dismantle the lower unit. If you've never done it before, get yourself a manual so you don't ruin it. I recommend an OMC service manual, rather than some of the other junk.
What are your motor's symptoms?

If you're going to DIY, get an OEM shop manual first.

I do have a manual. We were at WOT when we heard a loud noise like we hit something-which we didnt. When I stopped I couldnt engage it into gear(forward or reverse). I could move the throttle but the prop wouldnt go.

The bearing carrier, if the motor has ever seen salt, may come out very hard.

I just replaced the propshaft seals this spring so it comes out pretty easy with a steering wheel puller.
