Does anybody have an idea of how expensive the replacement of a clutch dog should be on a 50hp force. Without looking at it the mechanic wants to also replace the gear. He says the parts will be in the $400.00 range. This sounds a little expensive to me. Any input will be appreciated.

Re: Clutch dog repair

Sounds pretty cheap to me if the 400 includes the clutch dog and the forward gear and the labor. Clutch and forward gear will run you about 300 for parts alone. The forward gear needs to be replaced because the clutch dog side wears on the forward gear side evenly. Another option is for you to take the parts to a machine shop and have them reface the gear and clutch.
