The Seloc gives you alot of heads up tips that Clymer doesn't. I would opt for that one for the rebuild.

I would opt for neither. I think that they are both useless unless you are wanting to do ONLY basic repair or maintenance. If it where me (and I did) I would spend the extra money and get a Factory Repair Manual. Unfortunately the only one available for you motor is from www.kencook.com and you would have to wait for it.

That is just my opinion though. I like the engine specific manuals.

Hey civil,
Clymer s**cks. Go with Seloc or check ebay for factory service manual or the Seloc.

Bottom line it really doesn't matter. They are all excellent. I guess it boils down to which one you can understand the best.

Re: Clymer or Seloc???

Thanks for all of the replies.

I needed one immediately and I checked around and all I could find was a Clymer. I bought it for $25 and after reading through it, it looks like it will do for me. I will probably go ahead and order the factory manual too. I mainly needed something that would give me cylinder diameter tolerances and ring end gap tolerances.

My #2 cylinder wear after honing is at .002" and the limit is .003". It is close, but I can't foot the bill for boring plus all parts. I will test the ring end clearance with the best looking rings that I have, to get a ballpark estimate of where I stand. I assume that the end gaps on my new set will be a little closer.

Thanks,
cvlngineer

Hi Civil
Unfortunately you can't assume anything when doing this type work. New ring sets don't always gap tight enough. Be sure each part you fit is with in tollerance. Good luck. If you run into an area and need to clairify don't be bashful, just ask.

Re: Clymer or Seloc???

cvlngineer

Its hard to advise you with the knowledge I have, but all I can say is I had three motors apart and reassembled all with same rings/pistons everything in same place. Be aware not to swap the lower parts of rods between cylinders, or turn them - its broken apart after machining and only goes on same rod. The three motors I mentioned all had compression in 120 - 135 range before and after rep. They have all ran for years now, I service them and they show same compression. One has done 250 Hrs now since. The one was worn to limit. They can go for years that way - years. Id depends of if you repair or rebuild. I think if you rebuild you might as well do it all - or save your money - thats my opinion. Being worn 2/3 of recommended limit only means its broken inn !! New rings would probably not seat your cylinders good the first many hours. Remember within limit means your FINE. Just my opinion.
