CMC-130 bolted to a jackplate - input appreciated

Hi to all,<br /><br />I'm running a 14' 74" beam all. flat (riveted) with a 48 spl My power assist isn't "assisting" never has, been thinking of the CMC-130. Has anyone used one of these or have any input about them.<br /><br />Now for the jackplate. I've been wanting to upgrade to a 16' welded ex-wide all. flat. Found a used rig, Allumaweld, with a 40 rude. Boat motor and trailer they want $3500, they will pull the motor, but the jackplate stays, and sell the boat and trailer for $1700. And I think it's subject to an offer. Anyway I've noticed newer larger boats the motors are set back. Is this configuration benificial to hole shots, top end speed, etc? And would this be just redicules on a 16' flat?<br /><br />I'm just trying to gather info. I've seen a few rigs in the 16' range but they include motors and i'm hessitant to buy someone elses motor at least I know what I have and it runs good.<br /><br />I would like to one day upgrade the motor to perhaps a 70 hp. When my 48 gives out.<br /><br />The only problem with my rig is that it's riveted. I don't even mind that its 14' its wide and I have lots of storage and a platform with seats in the front and rear. Hi Beck<br /><br />Here is what I have read and been told about jack plates. They do two good things for the performance of your boat.<br /><br />A: It sets the motor farther behind the boat letting the prop run in what they call cleaner water (less air bubbles and or turbulence comming from under the hull) for better prop bite<br /><br />B: It also allows you to raise your motor higher giving you less drag and more speed.<br /><br />The OB jet guys are starting to use them alot around here also.<br /><br />I just bought a CMC PL65 Manual for my boat and it is one well built piece of equipment. 1/2 aluminum with all SS hardware. The PT-130 sells for about 440-500 with or without trim gauge. It also sets the motor back 6 inches.<br /><br />Havent used mine yet but I'm looking forward to see how it works.<br /><br />This won't help you at this time but I'll post handeling and speed reports when I get to that point. bubbakat I believe has the PT-130 on his boat.<br /><br />I have the PT-35 on my 13' whaler. It sets it back 6" or so. this allowed me to raise my motor considerably and performance has increased.<br /><br />take a look at my photos in the links in my sig to see what it looks like if you wish.

This is the 130 mounted to a 16 ft bass rig.<br />I wouldn't.t do with out it. It gave my boat better handling , and better bite on the water.<br /> It is really made better then the pictures indicate and is easy to install.<br />It has predrilled holes to set motor height where best suited.<br />

I added a CMC PT 35 onto a 14 ft. Carolina Skiff with a 25 hp motor. It made all of the difference in the world. I did not need a jackplate to accomplish the shallow running I needed in West Gavleston bay. <br /><br />If the boat comes with a jackplate, and the engine already has tilt/trim. then you have, effectively, a CMC T&T. The engine will have to be raised up to run higher than you think is normal due to the effects of the setback. Set up correctly, you will love it. RichG

Hi To All,<br /><br />Thanks for the input. I read it couple days ago and thought I had replied, but was just sitting here reading the forum and noticed I hadn't.<br /><br />I didn't do anything different yet as I am still looking for a 16' x-wide welded flat. Just missed one with a 48 rude for $750 that would have been right up my ally, especially if it had t&t, oh well.<br /><br />Thanks again,<br />Beck
