CMC PT-130 bracket circuit breaker?

I am in the process of getting my rig ready as my restoration is progressing and I'm having an issue with my CMC hydraulic tilt/trim bracket.

The manual states as first troubleshooting step:

"Try re-setting the circuit breaker. The circuit breaker is located on the red wire coming off the positive battery post. Press in the small tab located on the side. The circuit breaker is now reset."

I can't find the circuit breaker so I didn't get far.

The black box to the right of the battery holds two 30 amp relays. I have already tried swapping them.

The bilge pump works, and is the only other thing hooked up besides the 80hp Merc.

The black box holding the relays "clicks" when I try to move the bracket up or down, so the wiring seems correct.

My question is where is the circuit breaker so I can reset it?

Thanks for any assistance:)

No progress yet but I wanted to add that I have found a small black connecter piece that has a little metal tab on the side of it...but when I press on it there is no movement.

In the meantime I've gone ahead and moved the outboard up into the trailering position so I can at least move the boat around without worrying about the skeg.

I am thinking that since it's sitting on a setback of 6" tilting it manually will get old very quickly.:D

Hey buddy, your circuit breaker should be near your battery on your positive cable. Small black box with two white knobs on it. Not to make this sound dumb but make sure your connected to the battery properly. It should look something like this,

From the troubleshooting tip, the breaker supplied with the unit should have been installed between the battery and the relays. It doesn't appear to be there anymore (if it ever was). Since the relays are clicking, they are getting power. Did you install the unit? Has it ever worked correctly since you've owned it?

The wiring needs some serious attention but maybe you are aware of that. I see what appears to be duct tape on the positive battery cable which I hope is connected to the positive battery terminal. I say that because I see the negative battery cable end is painted black so one must assume it is the negative cable. However, I see red wires connected to that terminal. Red is typically a positive feed. Regardless, there seems to be zero circuit protection in this system. Even if there was a breaker installed, it may be an automatic type that resets automatically. You don't have to be stalled just because you can't find a breaker. A test light or voltmeter will help follow the juice. When you lose it you found the problem.

Re: CMC PT-130 bracket circuit breaker?

Thanks for the replies fellas, much appreciated.

I have an update.

My buddy stopped over that has a bit of electrical knowledge, to take a look at it. When I showed him the setup and flipped the trim/tilt switch, just so he could hear the clicking...IT WORKED and the motor tilted up!:D

I was pleasantly surprised of course.:) My immediate thought was "what did I do differently this time that worked?"

All I had done was remove the black and red motor cables from the posts. I hadn't tested it since doing this and was not aware that it made a difference.

This is fine since they will be connected to my separate crank start battery anyway.

Well, then we took the rig over to the lake(5 minutes away) for a test run...and the trim/tilt didn't work at the dock:rolleyes:

My buddy took the 12V connector off the tnt switch and put it back on and it worked.

I lowered it into the water, got the Merc started, took a few laps around the lake and I went to trim the motor up a bit to test top speed and it did not work.

I ended up manually tilting the motor at the dock to get her back on the trailer and here I am.

It seems like I just need to solder all connections when I redo it and it should be fine.

Silvertip, I did have the red on pos and black on neg, the picture isn't the best angle to show it. There are two red and two black that run to the relay box.

And I agree that the wiring is suspect, I am planning on tearing it all out and starting over before I complete the restoration. All I have is a bilge pump, minn kota, lights, trim/tilt and maybe a cd player and no guages, so not a huge job.

Thanks again:)

One more update, after fiddling with the mess of wires a bit the tilt bracket is working again.

Clearly I need to redo this wiring and I will be adding the appropriate fuses on a switch panel.

Thanks for the feedback.

Here is a short video of it fully functional, I am glad that it works, I wanted to make sure it was just the wiring and not the actuator.:D
